Strength Academy Wales (SAW) is setting the benchmark for inclusive weightlifting, considering inclusion from multiple levels to remove barriers and create opportunities. As a Disability Sport Wales ‘InSport’ club, a Special OlympicsGB centre, and a British Weightlifting licensed facility, SAW offers inclusive strength training for underrepresented groups through initiatives such as:
- Disability Programmes – Tailored coaching, adaptive equipment, and competition pathways for individuals with physical or learning disabilities.
- Women & Girls Empowerment – Initiatives like Us Girls, Raise the Bar Wales, and Ladies Strength Group create safe spaces to boost female participation.
- Age Well Programme – Funded by the People’s Health Trust, this supports over-60s to combat isolation and physical decline.
- Youth Disability Powerlifting – Backed by Tesco Grants and Vinci UK, this expands training for young disabled lifters.
- Parkinson’s Strength Programme – Funded by Parkinson’s UK to support symptom management and mobility.
- Unpaid Carers Programme – Enables carers to access fitness and social support.
- Versus Arthritis Strength Group – Helps individuals manage arthritis through customised strength training.
